Pelosi Statement on Fair Settlements for Black Farmers and Native American Trust Account Holders

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on fair legal settlements for African American farmers and Native American trust account holders:

“I'm committed to finding funding for the Pigford and Cobell settlements. Doing so will finally bring a long-delayed end to injustice and ensure that victims are fully compensated for past failures of judgment at the United States Department of Agriculture and the Department of the Interior.

“The House and Senate will work closely with the Administration to identify a workable solution.

“As we make progress on this issue, we must also not forget that there are other discrimination cases that must be resolved — including women, Hispanic and Native American farmers.  It is my hope these cases will also come to a just conclusion.”
